Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in the fields of film, television and the theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe, the flamboyant lawyer from the Showtime show Soul Food. The actress is known under her husband's name, Nikki Kodjoe. She was born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. As an infant, she showed an aptitude for acting and won the Best Actress Award in a Maryland High School Competition. Apart from her role in the theater and in the ballet company, she was also a part of The Washington Ballet Company.' She received a degree in Acting from New York University. The family was born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria from the age of seven. Contractor was well-informed about the world and an array of different cultures from a young age. Contractor was a brilliant pupil in Toronto and was trained as a classical ballet dancer. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts. Contractor began her acting career at 16 and was a part of the theater for a decade after spending ten years of dance. After she completed high school, she was offered a full scholarship for tuition to University of Toronto where she studied theatre with a double diploma in sociology and psychology. After a single semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the show Pericles at the world-class famous, world-class Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the lead role. Her performance received rave reviews. her performances on the stage in 92 productions. in the production. It was also voted as the best production by Canadian reviewers in 2002. Contractor was given the chance to join Stratford's conservatory course, in which only eight males as well as four women can be accepted to take a crash course of 20 weeks on the classical stage that she was eager to take.
